  are there jack jws (folks that partially believe but their lives are pretty worldy) ?

  They are, but they are almost always labelled as 'spiritually weak'. They are at the peripherals of JW society; invited to some JW events, intentionally excluded from others. I know because I was one.

  Chávez sending petrol to North American impoverished urban areas was his unique way of interfering with internal US politics and maintaing good public relations. It had nothing to do with how kind the man was or wasn't.

  What is so big about 400 languages?

  in order to ease into the internet world it seems the printing company is capitolizing on being able to provide their message in 400 languages.

  i do not see what the big deal is all about.

  It just fits into the standard JW imagery I always saw in the yearbooks - Bundled up pioneers preaching on the tundra, short sleeves with a camel conveniently in the background, and tropical shirts in front of breezy palm trees. It's all a mirage designed to fulfill the 'every tribe and nation' bit so they can say that the end is coming.

  Pinpointing the 1914 date? That's like continually throwing darts that hit the wall, and having the fifth or sixth one hit the bullseye and then jumping up and down like you are the best at the game. Small wonder they don't print their older material.

  some people recently raised concerns about security of the site relating to whether forum members could be watchtower plants trying to obtain information about people.

  apparently, this was because a previous forum that was setup was either owned by or later handed over to someone who used it to collect personal information about people which was then used to harrass them.

  i don't know all the details, i'm just paraphrasing what i've heard and recognize that it's a concern to some people.. i want to first of all put people's minds at rest: i've been running this site for what will be 13 years next month.

  ) that talked about fading instead of being df'd or da'd.

  i myself had planned to fade, but was df'd instead.

  During a brief period of fading before I started going again, I was bothered by a few elders my mother had set on my trail. I had moved into the city and had a worldly roommate, but the rumours circulated that it was a male companion (it was not - the roommate was female). They insisted on coming in, ostensibly to collect 'evidence' that a man was there. I refused on the grounds that the place was a wreck, which it was. There was a bit of back and forth, with some vague threats uttered about 'loose conduct'. Finally after I let my mother in, and she found out for herself, the threats subsided, confirming for me once and for all that she was behind it all. I moved back after only three months, and started going to meetings and service again. I found myself in a marriage all practically 'arranged' but in name, and disfellowshipped months after.

  For a religion that has prided itself on an ever-growing worldwide membership, being labelled as an American sect is damaging to that reputation and it is not surprising that they resist that label.

  Barr died in 2010 and Sydlik died in 2006. Barry died rather dramatically while giving a convention talk in Hawaii in 1999. He has a massive heart attack and collapsed on stage. They pulled him off the stage so that someone else could finish his talk.

  Nuking an asteroid on the surface doesn't do anything, as the Bruce Willis movie pointed out. You have to land a party on it, drill in the vacuum of space, risk exposure to the intense heat and cold, drop the nuke down into the drilled hole, and then there might be a loose wire or something. And all of this while the asteroid is close enough to even attempt a landing, so you'd better get to drilling post-haste. Then the party needs to rendezvous at a point safely away from the asteroid to avoid being a suicide mission. You see, I just love breaking these sci-fi adventure flicks down!

  here in the uk the cost of living is going up far beyond wage rises.

  the cost of travelling is shooting up each time i look at a petrol pump!

  water rates are rising.
